Why I won’t be using Warehouse Express again
Time for a rant.
I made my occasional check on the spam folder yesterday just to weed out the false positives.
One claimed to be from Halifax, my bank, but as expected turned out to be the usual poorly-spelled phishing attempt. As I was about to delete it the envelope-to field caught my eye: the mail had been sent to wareexp@savvo.co.uk*.
For years now I’ve set up separate aliases for each online account so I can track who sells addresses to spammers. Up to now it’s been a pointless, paranoid exercise only catching out one small-time travel operator seven or eight years ago.
But wareexp@savvo.co.uk is the address that Warehouse Express knows me by. I immediately emailed them asking how this has happened and a day later I’ve received their reply assuring me that they have checked their servers for malware and suggesting that I have been attacked by a keylogger or some such.
The possibility that a Warehouse Express employee has made a bit of cash on the side by flogging their database did not occur to them. I have, consequently, pointed out to them the obvious solution they have overlooked and expressed my doubts about their data security.
One less website to check for prices, life gets a little easier.
*Don’t bother, it’s dead now.
